Bold.org welcomes students from all backgrounds, regardless of citizenship status.
The key requirement is that you must be currently enrolled in — or planning to attend — a U.S.-based college, university, or other qualifying institution. Because Bold.org can only send scholarship funds directly to schools within the United States, students attending institutions outside the U.S. are not eligible at this time.
If you meet the requirements, you can create a free Bold.org account and start applying for scholarships. Below you'll find answers to common questions for international students.
Am I Eligible?
Eligibility depends on your specific academic situation. Here are the most common scenarios:
High school abroad, college in the U.S.
Yes, you're eligible.
For your high school, select "Homeschool experience" during registration
List your U.S. college or university as your current school
High school in the U.S., college abroad, returning for further U.S. studies
Yes, you're eligible.
List your U.S. high school and your upcoming U.S. college or university
You may include your international college experience in your bio for additional context
Both high school and college completed outside the U.S.
Not eligible at this time.
If you are currently living abroad and not attending or planning to attend a U.S.-based institution, you are unfortunately not eligible for Bold.org scholarships at this time.
Common Questions
Can international students use Bold.org?
Yes — if you are attending or planning to attend a U.S.-based school, you can apply for scholarships on Bold.org, regardless of your citizenship status.
Can I apply if I completed school outside the U.S.?
Yes, if you're currently enrolled in a U.S.-based institution. Students who have completed all of their education outside the U.S. and are not planning to attend a U.S. school are not eligible at this time.
What if my school is not listed on Bold.org?
If your school doesn't appear in the Bold.org database, you can:
Select "Home school experience" as a workaround
Add your actual school details in your bio section for context
If you're attending a U.S.-based school that should be listed, contact Support with the school's full name, city, state, and type of institution, and we can look into adding it.
What if I don't have a U.S. phone number or address?
You can use your U.S. school's contact information during sign-up. Bold.org does not send physical mail, so this won't cause any issues with your account.
Tips for International Students
Complete your profile thoroughly — make sure your current or planned U.S. school is listed
Use "Homeschool experience" for any non-U.S. schooling when required during registration
Add context in your bio — mention your international education background to give scholarship providers a fuller picture
Keep your profile up to date — especially if your enrollment status or school changes
